Welcome to the 'cdntechpodcast' room. Carmi Levy : We're here! Pylawn : Can you hear us? - he shouts into the abyss... Joel Adams : You joke about Palm, but in terms of phone usability. # of steps on Palm Treo < BlackBerry < iOS/Android. Joel Adams : Except for music/books, ecosystem is overrated. Joel Adams : No one uses 95% of their apps. And very few (useful ones) have lock-in. Joel Adams : And they both have the same 2 apps (and I like the PlayBook). Blacklightjdr : Oh hi guys! Blacklightjdr : I'm back! Joel Adams : Hey Jamieson, welcome to the highly dynamic and busy CDN Tech Podcast chat room. Blacklightjdr : I know, last week I was sitting in Jon's chair, but this week I figured i should join in and chat and listen to the cast Blacklightjdr : btw Joel, at some point I would love to have coffee if you have time Joel Adams : Sure, I'm pretty flexible these days. Coffee or a beer. Blacklightjdr : mmm, agreed, i just got back from Gigs myself Joel Adams : joeladams@gmail.com or DM me. Blacklightjdr : sounds good! Joel Adams : Seems like the last time I looked at Yahoo's homepage it was on Netscape and it had a grey background :) Blacklightjdr : no kidding, though I do agree about flickr, I would love to see it come back up again and work with the most recent stuff Carmi Levy : Joel: Ha! Good one....Can you even USE Netscape anymore without exposing your machine to a viper's nest of malware? Joel Adams : But yeah, they do have lots of sub-brands that I use and often forget that they are Yahoo. Joel Adams : I bet if you could use Netscape 1.0 it would be the safest browser on the planet (except exposure to tags) Blacklightjdr : well, take a look at the most recent thing Jon and KVL have done, its using the yahoo audio player Blacklightjdr : LOL, oh blink, how i miss thee Joel Adams : I'm loving the @StefanHacking. Reminds me of my Amiga Blacklightjdr : definitly Blacklightjdr : MacRumours anyone? Joel Adams : I bet if they posted it as a fake (not anonymous) it still would have spread as a rumour just as fast. Carmi Levy : Anyone remember the Lynx browser? Ah, test links! Carmi Levy : oops, "text" Joel Adams : Never really used Lynx, but Gopher a bunch. Joel Adams : Interesting that media literacy seems to be higher among commenters than prof. journos. Joel Adams : Sorry, that didn't come out right. Joel Adams : I think they assume that the professionals & experts have done that digging, which is why I still place more blame there. Carmi Levy : Good point, Joel. Blacklightjdr : Anyone can blog, so everyone must be right gorf18 : I heard someone say that having your own reality tv show != having a youtube channel Joel Adams : But I know trust the crowd sourced twittersphere than cnn for instance. But all with a grain of salt. Joel Adams : Did you see the Nicest Cease & Desist every by Jack Daniels? Joel Adams : http://brokenpianoforpresident.com/2012/07/19/jack-daniels-lawsuit-the-full-scoop/ Joel Adams : The lawyer thanks them for the homage, says it's okay to sell the infringing items in stock, then offers to help pay costs to change the design of the book cover. Joel Adams : Enforcing copyright shouldn't translate to being a jerk. Blacklightjdr : being a search engine is not about enforcing copyright, its about providing a service, same like IP's shaping bandwidth, its their job to provide the service, not to say what we can and can't do with Blacklightjdr : the service Joel Adams : Exactly cdntechpodcast mod: Saw that C&D notice, that was great, and they got great press from it. gorf18 : Dalton Caldwell Joel Adams : Sometimes I wish Twitter was started or "bought" by Wikipedia. Blacklightjdr : we would all use apps Blacklightjdr : not the website gorf18 : Hastags could link to Wikipedia articles Blacklightjdr : LOL Joel Adams : I really really want twitter to make money, because I like the service. I worry more about them not making money than by promoted tweets etc. Joel Adams : Yeah! Blacklightjdr : are they not doing well despite their broad usage? gorf18 : The problem I have is Apple has stolen many ideas in the past Joel Adams : I think they are doing okay actually. But no one really knows for sure. So I worry they'll just shut down tomorrow. Blacklightjdr : weird, I didn't know that
